RESEARCH OVERVIEW
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) is a multidisciplinary field that integrates the natural sciences (physics, chemistry and biology) with various engineering principles and practices. Building upon traditional chemical engineering principles, including mass and energy balance, thermodynamics, reaction engineering, and transport phenomena, engineers apply this knowledge to develop and produce new chemical and biological materials. In order to address some of the world’s most pressing scientific problems and tackle various technological challenges, collaboration among researchers with diverse skills and expertise is essential. Therefore, our department puts significant effort into creating a cooperative and collaborative research environment for both faculty members and students.
The CBE department at KAIST is consistently ranked as one of the top research departments in Korea. We are actively working towards establishing ourselves as global leaders in both research and education. Our department plays a pivotal role in fostering interdisciplinary research across various fields. The following are some of the primary research areas pursued by our faculty members.
