  ▶ "From Idea to Prototype" (Speaker: Prof. Daniel Saakes)

  New product development in industrial design requires a combination of engineering excellence and understanding human need. Design teams are therefore inherently multidisciplinary and include experts of various fields and sometimes also end-users. Because not all of these stakeholders have design backgrounds or skills, the challenge is to engage these teams into a shared creative process that leads to innovative new products.  

  In this talk I present a few techniques that we have been developing to support the imagination through iterative, highly interactive visualization cycles. We so engage design teams in trial and error processes, letting them explore and experience product concepts first hand. A few real-world cases demonstrate the proposed benefits in the field of ceramics and packaging design, and hint to the future of industrial design tools.

  ▶ "To bring an idea into a product" (Speaker: Prof. Se-Jin Kwon)

  Every product we use in daily life began with an idea of one person. To bring an idea into the the world involves many steps. Design is essential in every step of the process. Engineering design must fulfill specific requirements as well as the laws of nature and budget constraint. I will describe in the talk how the idea of moon exploration evolved and we decided to develop a moon lander. It was a logical extenstion of our research in spacecraft propulsion system, as it was one of the key technologies that were missing in this country. The development took several iterations until successful ground test.
