초록:

로버트 A. 이스터 박사는 세계적인 교육과 연구의 장으로 정평이 있는 일리노이 대학교의 19대 총장직을 역임하고 있다. 일리노이 대학은 시카고와 스프링필드 그리고 어바나 샴페인에 세 곳의 개별 캠퍼스가 있으며 50억 달러 규모를 웃도는 연간 운영예산을 가지고 전체적으로 78,000명의 학생들을 가르치고 년간 2만 건에 다다르는 학위를 수여하고 있으며 전 세계적으로 665,000 동문을 보유하고 있다.

이스터 총장은 고등교육의 중대한 역할과 세계시장에 가까운 관계를 유지해야함의 중요성, 그리고 일리노이 대학과 일리노이 주, 시카고 시 그리고 대한민국 사이에 수많은 파트너 관계에 대하여 이야기 할 것이다. 이번 KAIST에서의 세미나에는 일리노이 대학교의 연구부총장인 로렌스 B. 슈크 박사가 함께하여 혁신을 추진하고 발전시키기 위해 일리노이 대학교가 취한 진취적인 노력들에 대하여 이야기 하고 어바나 샴페인 일리노이 대학교의 공과대학장 안드레아스 C. 칸젤라리스 박사 역시 과학기술과 공학계에서 어바나 캠퍼스가 가지고 있는 우선순위와 영향력에 대해 이야기 하고자 세미나에 동참한다.

Abstract:

Dr. Robert A. Easter serves as the 19th President of the University of Illinois, one of the world’s great centers of education and research discovery. The University of Illinois, with three distinct campuses in Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign, has an annual operating budget of more than $5 billion, collectively enrolls more than 78,000 students, awards nearly 20,000 degrees each year and has more than 665,000 alumni around the world.

President Easter will be discussing the critical role of higher education, the importance of staying connected and relevant in a global marketplace, and the myriad partnerships between the University of Illinois, the State of Illinois, the City of Chicago, and the Republic of Korea. Also joining him in this session at KAIST University will be University of Illinois Vice President for Research Dr. Lawrence B. Schook who will discuss the forward-thinking approach the University has taken to catalyze and foster innovation and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign College of Engineering Dean Dr. Andreas C. Cangellaris who will discuss the priorities and reach of the Urbana campus in science, technology and engineering.
