The Imperial College London and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) are offering a four-day professional skills course in July 2014. The course will be attended by 48 early-stage PhD students from around the world, and will take place on the HKU campus. The Summer School aims to enhance both the personal and research effectiveness of participants, and is also a great chance to get away from your normal working environment, meet people from other disciplines and cultures.

 



Students who are interested in the program, please submit the application to the department office by 14 May.

 4. Number of Participants & Conditions to apply: 15 KAIST Ph.D. students, fluent in English (should be less than 18 months after the course started)

4-day Professional Skill Training Course

 



 6. Course Description

- Based on Imperial's Graduate School's award-winning Research Skills Development programme, the course is delivered at the University of Hong Kong, in conjunction with colleagues from HKU and other partner institutions.  

- Topics covered include: Managing research project, intercultural awareness, effective team working, succeeding in collaborative research, building successful working relationships, and enhancing networking skills.

  - Students work in small groups, assisted by a tutor from one of the participating institutions. The course provides students with a chance to develop their professional and research skills in an international environment.

 

 7. Required documents: should be submitted to the department office via email by May 14. (Serim Kim, sr_kim@kaist.ac.kr)

    - CV in English 

     - Motivation letter(Including your motivation to apply)

     - Recommendation letter from academic advisor

     - Research project plan and any supporting materials (attached)

     - English language proficiency test result or its equivalent in other certificates or results

 

 8. Selection Procedure  

      - May 14th (Wed): Deadline for submitting application to the department office

      - May 16th (Fri): Result announcement

 

 9. Documents to be submitted (only for selected students)

      - Completed official visa applications forms ID995A (Remember to sign on every page as required on the bottom right corner and please remember the HK immigration Department only accepts originals, not photocopied or computer signed ID995A forms.)

      - Completed visa sponsorship application form_CEDARS (attached);

      - A photocopy of signed acceptance of notice of admission from HKU (to be provided by HKU);

      - A copy of passport;

      - A copy of CV i.e. resume;  

      - Documents/statement showing that applicant has adequate means to finance his/her studies in HK (e.g. latest bank statement, award letter of financial aid, scholarship, etc.);

      - A HK$800 bank draft made payable to "The University of Hong Kong".
