AIChE-KAIST is an autonomous student body associated with AIChE, led by motivated students at KAIST. It is the only student chapter in Korea and that takes on the mission of AIChE. This year AIChE-KAIST was invited to participate in the 4th annual AIChE-SLS conference as speakers. AIChE-SLS is a one day event where professionals from both academic and industrial sectors come and enthusiastically listen to students’ research and reach out to those that stand out.
Speakers Kim Dae Young(KAIST ’14) and Kim Jin Young(KAIST ’14) represented KAIST to introduce our professors and their research fields to the renowned academic and corporate professionals participating at the AIChE-SLS conference. Main research topics such as ‘Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Sciences’, ‘Environmental and Sustainability Systems’, ‘Waste to energy and resource’, and ’Gas hydrate, CO2 capture and utilization’ were introduced in our presentation.
The conference rolled out with an inspiring keynote speech from Professor Neal Tai-Shung Chung of NUS. He not only described the outstanding works of his students, but also emphasized the importance of having passion as an engineer. Other great keynotes and parallel session speeches were given after the first keynote. During breaks, participants socialized with each other and our representatives were able to connect with various professionals within the field.
We mainly kept close touch with AIChE student chapters from NUS and other countries, but notably came in contact with the AIChE director, Lucy Alexander. She was amazed at the autonomous nature of AIChE-KAIST and offered to help us in the future. The conference ended with a banquet where we celebrated a closer bond with AIChE-NUS and other student bodies.
